The First International Symposium on Sedation in Digestive Endoscopy was a success. World expert endoscopists and anesthesiologists, following discussion and voting, formulated thirty evidence-based statements, which will be published soon.

It is hoped that the international consensus that is garnered from the statement will serve as a resource for the development of a universal approach to procedural sedation for gastrointestinal endoscopy.

For those who missed the Athens meeting, GASTRO 2009 will give opportunity to learn more about the achievements of the Sedation Symposium. A Common Interest Group Meeting will take place on Monday, November 23, 2009 and an outstanding faculty will lecture on the outcome of this exciting meeting.
